Overheating analysis (Thermal Comfort)

The risk of overheating is assessed at early stage against applicable guidelines:

  • Non-domestic buildings: CIBSE TM52

  • Residential: CIBSE TM 59 and Approved Document Part O

  • Schools: BB101-2018

A dynamic simulation model is produced to identify potential overheating. When unsatisfactory levels of thermal comfort are present, different design improvements are tested (building shape; fabric and insulation; fenestration and solar control glazing; orientation and shading elements, etc).

Daylight, sunlight and overshadowing assessments

New developments should demonstrate appropriate levels of sunlight, daylight and also limited overshadowing in proposed and surrounding buildings. Compliance can be demonstrated through building modelling and lighting analysis in line with applicable guidelines to meet planning requirements.
